Free iPhone Case and a Look Behind the Curtain
In response to recent iPhone 4 criticism and reviews. Apple held a press conference today to discuss the antenna issue, and improve public perception of their latest hugely popular product.
The answer: a free case for iPhone 4 buyers until September 30th and a 30 day return period. Apple cannot produce Bumpers quick enough to accommodate this new demand so they will offer a range of options, sourced from unnamed suppliers.
Apple also added a page to their website on Antenna Design and Test Labs, which explains some of the systems and techniques used to test their wireless products. I cannot help but find it slightly impressive although I know nothing about wireless testing, and this is clearly the point. Another very well orchestrated information release.
O2 have responded with a post ready for further information (on Monday) so they clearly knew nothing about what was going to be said today.
Yes I have an iPhone 4 and it can drop two or three bars if held in a specific way, but I usually have great reception or no reception. A couple of bars makes little difference and the amazing screen alone is worth learning to not hold it that way.
Update 20/07/10: O2 released a statement on schedule saying that they are still continuing talks with Apple more to follow. This is likely to be about new return periods for UK O2 customers or possibly case distribution.
